DSA MONTHLY MEETING MARCH 4TH WITH GUEST SPEAKER EDYE BROOKSHIRE -Due to winter storm we have rescheduled Edye for May and our very own Harry Hewlett will teach us how to get a better Zoom performance

Edye Brookshire is a songwriter and publisher and has had the privilege of qualifying and attending the Country Music Awards in Nashville twice.  She qualified as an artist/singer, songwriter, as well as publisher.  She’s had cuts that “Womans Point of View” recorded by Janet McBride and had a song stolen by Tammy Wynette. Edye has appeared in Local Community Theatres, stage acts and one act plays.  She has shared the stage with Bill Mack, Wynn Stewart, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Hank Thompson, Ray Price, Waylon Jennings and many others.  She has made several industrial commercials, has been in two movies and has appeared on several TV programs, including TV Dallas with J.R. Ewing and the cast. Edye currently performs with her band, Rolling Country.


Edye own’s a summer home situated on 10 acres in Oleta, Oklahoma where she has an outdoor 53 foot stage in the middle of a lush meadow. The first weekend of every month, she hosts the Big River Festival where touring singers, songwriters and musicians camp out in the meadow and perform on the stage. Everyone brings food for their community cook-out.

As usual, for members we will also have song critiques by industry pros Barbe McMillen and Joe Milton.  Play your song live, from your computer, or your phone or email an MP3 to Harry Hewlett at hhhewlett@gmail.com, and also you can display your lyrics from your computer so the members can give comments as well.  You will also be entered into the DSA Song of the Year and Songwriter of the Year contest. The cost is $10 per song.

Each song is entered into the Song of The Year and Songwriter of the Year Competition which is awarded at our December Awards Banquet.

BILL NASH WILL SPEAK AT JULY 14TH MEETING ON ALTERNATIVE TUNINGS FOR GUITAR

Long time member of the local folk community and friend of Uncle Calvins, Bill Nash will speak at the July 14th DSA meeting on alternative tunings for the guitar using multiple capos. Because of health issues and his unwillingness to give up what he loves doing, Bill has developed ways of playing guitar that require less finger mobility. Come see how you can adapt Bill's discoveries to your songwriting.

RAY BAKER WILL BE GUEST SPEAKER FOR MAY12TH MEETING

For more than three decades, the professional performance of Ray L. Baker on the piano, alto, soprano, and tenor saxophones have been entertaining and motivating to all listening ears. Ray’s heart’s desire is to touch people’s lives through music. Ray studied music and Business Administration at Wichita State University. While in college Ray formed and played with many different groups and begin writing music.
PRODUCER
For two decades, Ray L Baker has been assisting songwriters, singers and instrumentalist began their music careers by producing professional "Demo", "Album Projects" and Accompaniment Tracks.
PUBLISHER
 Ray - Pam Publishing was established as a quest for new artists especially singers and instrumentalists who need original material for an album project. These compositions are in the music genre of Jazz, (swing, bebop, Latin Jazz, Funk jazz, R&B and Pop music styles. The vocal compositions are primarily Christian themes, ranging from Evangelism to Worship as well as love songs. Ray-Pam Publishing has an extensive repertoire of songs to be placed with the right vocalist or instrumentalist who has an unique and individual style, thus creating a personal musical signature.

Nashville Songwriter Tony Ramey to Speak on Tuesday, January 14th


Tony has had hit songs and gold and platinum record awards for songs on albums cut by George Strait, Trisha Yearwood, Doug Stone, Craig Morgan, John Michael Montgomery, Easton Corbin, Alabama, Johnny Lee, Texas artists Aaron Watson and Jason Meadows, and a host of others. After working in Nashville for more than 10 years for Strait's publishing company, Tony has moved to Greenville, Tx where he resides with his wife and two children.
