Steve Leslie has had songs recorded by Kenny Rogers, Mark Chesnutt, George Strait, Darryl Worley, Rhonda Vincent, and Neal McCoy, to name a few. Steve recieved a Grammy certificate for the title cut to Ricky Skaggs' 2004 Grammy- winning Best Bluegrass Album of the Year, "Brand New Strings".

Last night at our second Tuesday meeting, Bob Paterno brought us the hilarious and charming Steve Leslie from Nashville via Skype. Once again, Skype worked great, and we got to interact with someone who not only has written great hit songs but is completely immersed in the music business. Steve talked about using economy in our writing, about being aware of what our words imply and what the listener infers, and relishing that interaction. He warned about a trend toward "newspaper" writing. As an old newspaper reporter (Texarkana Gazette, Austin American-Statesman, Shreveport Journal, Orlando Sentinel) I somehow don't feel offended.
